October 7th, 2022, is DIS Day – an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) working on the front lines to keep our nation and our communities safer.

DIS use their skills, ingenuity, and compassion to help communities respond to outbreaks and emerging infections when they arise, and help their neighbors navigate everyday health needs. DIS saved millions of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and were some of the first to engage when the 2022 monkeypox (MPV) outbreak emerged. Many are even deployed to respond to Hurricaine Ian in Florida.

This year, we’re celebrating DIS Day with the theme “Always on the Front Lines” in honor of the essential role DIS play in keeping us all healthy and safe.

We encourage you to share your appreciation with DIS this week on social media and within your organizations. NCSD has created special tools for you to use to celebrate DIS, including social media posts, social media graphic templates, and certificates of appreciation you can personalize for your DIS. Use the hashtag #DIS2022 so we can see the nation’s collective respect and admiration for DIS all week long.
