Motivational interviewing techniques were integrated into Washington, DC’s School Based Screening Program (SBSP) as a mechanism for improving treatment outcomes. The program’s ‘Treatment Day Form’ incorporates the use of open-ended questions to guide conversations around risk-reduction and partner services as ways to avoid future re-infection. The form is used by the SBSP DIS to conduct interviews on all locatable positives in a variety of settings to include STD clinics, school-based health centers, and via telephone.
