As public health professionals, disease intervention specialists (DIS) are key players in engaging their local communities for STD/HIV testing and treatment and other sexual health and support services. They play a particularly important role when connecting with communities experiencing homelessness since members of these communities often face multiple other challenges such as food insecurity, mental health issues, and illicit drug use.
