Get the scoop on the latest Federal happenings.
Shortly after midnight Friday morning, the House of Representatives, by a vote of 216-213, endorsed the Senate-passed rescission package cancelling previously appropriated FY2025 funding – specifically $7.9 billion in foreign aid and $1.1 billion for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and grants to NPR and PBS. Earlier in the week, $400 billion in PEPFAR cuts were removed from the package. The package now heads to the President’s desk for signature.
Members of the Administration have stated that this recissions package was a test, and if it passed Congress, would consider further recissions packages. With the passage of this first recissions package, the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Russ Vought, stated this week that another request for recissions of FY2025 funds is “likely coming soon.”
