Get the scoop on the latest Federal happenings.
As you likely saw, late last week the President signed into law, H.R. 1, the reconciliation bill, commonly know as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Here is a summary of the health-related provisions, including effective dates.
Congress now turns its attention to its next big legislative package: FY2025 recessions package the Administration sent to Congress in June, and which has passed the House of Representatives. The Senate is now considering this bill and has until July 18 for action or else the impounded (held) funds are to be spent as Congress appropriated them.
Also this week, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, by a vote of 12-11, advanced Dr. Susan Monarez’s nomination to be the CDC Director to the Senate floor. The committee vote was a first, as the position of CDC Director did not need confirmation by the Senate until 2023 when the requirement was added to the FY23 omnibus appropriations bill. Dr. Monarez formerly served as the deputy director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health and, most recently, was the CDC acting director. No date has been set for full confirmation by the Senate, though it is expected sometime in July.
