We are currently one week into the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, after funding lapsed at midnight last Friday, February 13. Both the House and the Senate were in recess this week, so there was no progress on Congressional negotiations to change ICE and border patrol policy in order to re-open that agency. Negotiations are expected to continue next week, but unlikely to bring any change ahead of the President delivering the State of the Union speech on Tuesday of next week.
Additionally, this week the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) halting the Administration’s attempts to terminate CDC grants for public health infrastructure, surveillance and STI and HIV prevention was extended. This TRO now extends until March 12.
