Many states require teachers to be trained on the impacts of trauma on students’ ability to learn and how it affects their behavior in the classroom. However, a small but growing number of states are beginning to recognize the role that secondary traumatic stress has on a teacher’s wellbeing and taking action to ensure teachers and district leaders receive training to understand secondary traumatic stress. During this webinar, experts from NASBE, Child Trends, the Illinois Education Association, and Project Fleur-de-lis in New Orleans will highlight approaches states are taking through policies and programming to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to provide trauma-informed instruction and avoid secondary traumatic stress.
Speakers Include:
• Celina Pierrottet, Research and Policy Associate, NASBE
• Brandon Stratford, PhD, Deputy Director of Education Research, Child Trends
• Audrey Soglin, Executive Director, Illinois Education Association
• Laura Danna, LCSW, Project Director, Project Fleur-de-lis in New Orleans, Louisiana
