NCSD is hosting an STD Day of Action (DOA) called “20/20: STD DOA” to bring awareness to the raging STD epidemic in this country. The goal of 20/20 is to illustrate that we are seeing STD rates at 20 year highs with funding levels at 20 year lows, and we have a vision for a healthier America. This day is especially important with the recent release of President Trump’s unreasonable 17% cut to STD Prevention funding. This proposed cut will only serve to exacerbate the already worsening STD rates. STD prevention funding must rise to meet the ever increasing STD burden in America!

The goal of 20/20 is to illustrate that we are seeing STD rates at 20 year highs with funding levels at 20 year lows, and we have a vision for a healthier America.

That’s why WE NEED YOU to increase the grassroots voices talking about the importance of federal STD prevention funding.  Programs that have strong grassroots support tend to enjoy support from elected officials—they can’t support programs they don’t know about. For the DOA, NCSD will be facilitating meetings with congressional offices with constituents from around the country, and we want you to join us and participate in these meetings to spread the important message about STDs in America.

To participate or to nominate someone to attend, please review the above document for more information. There is an opportunity to apply for a scholarship to participate however these are very limited.

Ideally, we are looking for the following, but all pro-STD prevention voices are welcome:

  • Directors of STD clinics, clinicians, DIS, STD surveillance and prevention experts, or consumers of services (e.g. a Mom who was treated for congenital syphilis).
  • Those who have the ability to freely discuss the funding needs of state and local STD programs and services.
  • Individuals who can tell the story of STD prevention and services in a compelling and personally motivating way.
  • People who are not intimidated by Washington politicians!

Please respond by JUNE 9th to participate!  All inquiries can be directed to Matt Prior, State Policy and Communications Manager.

Information and participation form attached above.
