Human Trafficking: From an STI Follow-Up Perspective

Hosted By
HCET
Event Date
November 5, 2018

According to the United States Department of Homeland Security, human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Because victims of human trafficking rarely self-disclose, identification and intervention are important tools for healthcare professionals to use when helping prevent human trafficking.

This webinar will specifically address the question: what role do Disease Intervention Specialists and public health professionals have in preventing human trafficking? Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) and other public health professionals who investigate STIs and perform follow-up are highly skilled patient navigators, network builders, and ground-level investigators. As a critical part of public health infrastructure, DIS can play an important role in the fight against human trafficking, and this webinar will provide information and strategies they can use daily. Please join HCET and Mary A. Jay, MA, Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, for this engaging webinar.
