Mpox Communications Toolkit and Creative Assets
Use the Mpox Communications Toolkit and Creative Assets to share important information about the mpox vaccine with your community. Use the Communications Toolkit to work with local media to raise awareness about mpox or respond to outbreaks. Use the Creative Assets to remind people that mpox is still around and about the benefits of completing the two-dose mpox vaccine series.
Mpox Communications Toolkit
Collaborating with media to help the public understand the risk of mpox was an important strategy for curbing the 2022 Mpox Outbreak. In fact, through a series of online focus groups, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) shared that their sense of risk was connected to how frequently they saw news stories and social media posts about mpox. Now that the height of the outbreak has passed, mpox is ‘out of sight, out of mind.” Nevertheless, public health officials expect periodic outbreaks and the vaccine can provide protection from infection or serious illness.
Health departments can continue to partner with local media outlets to proactively inform their communities that cases could rise again and to emphasize the importance of receiving the safe, effective, two-dose mpox vaccine. The Mpox Communications Toolkit includes resources to help health departments partner with media proactively or in response to an outbreak. Tools included in the toolkit include templates for press releases and blog posts, talking points, and a step-by-step planning guide for press events.
Creative Assets
During the 2022 Mpox Outbreak, NCSD partnered with CDC to conduct a series of six AI-driven online focus groups with GBMSM to understand their vaccine decisions and test key messages about mpox and the vaccine. All told, these focus groups included more than 300 GBMSM and transgenser women. NCSD subsequently partnered with communications agency SKDK to develop a suite of creative assets for health departments and community-based organizations to communicate about the mpox vaccine.
The themes and messages in the creative assets were directly informed by focus group participants’ feedback on messages and on how they were making their own vaccine decisions. Key messages in these materials include:
- Mpox is still around.
- The vaccine is safe and effective.
- Two doses of the vaccine offer the most protection.
- Being fully vaccinated is a good way to protect yourself, the people you care about, and your lifestyle.
All QR codes lead to the CDC’s Mpox Vaccine Locator.
The Creative Assets in the toolkit below are available for free to communicate about the mpox vaccine in your community. Each tool includes links to a Google Drive with print-ready PDFs (with and without a bleed for printers) and JPEGs. Additionally, NCSD can partner with you to co-brand materials or to provide additional sizing options.
Customize Your Campaign
The communications team can help you personalize your campaign. Reach out if you want to:
- Cobrand materials with your health department or organization logo;
- Create materials in different file sizes; or
- Replace the QR code with a code that points to local information rather than the CDC’s Vaccine Locator.
Mpox Posters
Mpox posters can be printed as 8.5″x11″ flyers or as 18″x24″ large posters. The links next to each poster option provide print-ready PDF files with or without a bleed.

Double Check Poster
Make sure the second dose of the mpox vaccine is on your travel list. Engaging in sex while traveling can increase exposure to mpox. Getting the second dose of the mpox vaccine before taking off can protect you when you travel and protect your partners when you get home.

Remember the 80s? It’s long gone. Remember mpox? It’s still a thing. Focus group participants shared that they feel safe from mpox now that media coverage has waned. Remind them that mpox still exists – but so does the safe, effective vaccine.
