CDC's guidelines provide guidance about prevention strategies and services that can prevent or diagnose new HIV infections and link individuals at risk to relevant prevention, medical, and social services.
Today, CDC publicly released a revised PrEP Guidelines Update in draft form. The update includes clarification of the need to conduct STD testing for sexually active persons with symptoms and for asymptomatic MSM at high risk at least every three months, as well as testing for sexually active adolescents and adults every six months, even if asymptomatic.
NCSD has been working on changes to the PrEP Guidelines since 2015, raising concerns regarding the STD screening intervals for those on PrEP. Over the last three years, we have encouraged CDC to revise these guidelines to provide a a stronger recommendation on STD screening intervals for persons on PrEP. These proposed changes are a major win for STD prevention and NCSD would like to say a big thank you to everyone who assisted us in our communication to CDC on this topic.
To submit comments on the draft changes, send your comments on the revised text only with the subject line “Comments on PrEP Guidelines to Supplement” to dhapguideline@cdc.gov by September 15, 2017.
Please contact NCSD’s Director of Policy and Communications, Stephanie Arnold Pang, with any questions or concerns.
