Funding

FY18: You may have been hearing in the news recently about the “rescission” tool that President Trump has proposed using to reduce non-defense discretionary (NDD) programs. Rescission is a measure that allows the President to put a 45-day hold on funding and ask Congress to rescind already appropriated funds. The president is expected to make a decision in the next couple of weeks on if this is a measure that he will take. If he does, there is still debate about whether a simple majority, or 60 votes are required to approve the President’s rescission request. We will keep you updated on what this means for STDs.

FY19: As we mentioned before, Congress is currently in the process of negotiating FY19 funding, including appropriations for DSTDP. On the Senate side Senators Shaheen and Hassan wrote a letter to fellow members asking the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services to support $227.3 million for sexually transmitted disease prevention at the CDC. We are currently in the process of asking other senators to sign on. To support this effort visit our Take Action Center.

STD Day of Action

NCSD takes to the hill: On Wednesday, April 4th, 20 STD allies from 14 states took to the Hill during our STD Day of Action to ask their representatives to support STD programs in FY 2019. We successfully met with 59 offices, and ensured that our collective voice for STD prevention was heard! If you are interested in participating in a future Day of Action please reach out to the policy team.
