Audrie MacDuff King (she/her) is NCSD's Board Chair and the Director of STI Policy, Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV & STI, Division of Disease Control in the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
I love making people feel comfortable and listened-to in situations that can be uncomfortable and vulnerable; I’ve never been shy about discussing “taboo” topics. I also love the opportunities I get to incorporate conversations about health equity and disability rights into this work.
We need to amplify and center the voices of marginalized communities and address systemic racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, fatphobia, etc., while recognizing that these are intersecting oppressions. As Audre Lorde said, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” All of these issues impact a person’s sexual wellness and their likelihood of seeking out healthcare. Sexual health and STI care must be accessible, affordable, and non-judgmental.
My answer changes daily, as I tend to hyper fixate on new hobbies for a short period of time and then move on to whatever sparks my interest next! I love exploring the city, tending to my many plants, taking ballet classes, studying tarot, record shopping, going for walks in Prospect Park with my partner and our Boston Terrier, and crafting!
