Here's the scoop on what's happening this week in Congress
Despite all the back and forth on additional COVID-19 relief, a deal was not reached. Earlier this week, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) publicly released a letter to Secretary Mnuchin outlining all the outstanding issues for their negotiations. With Congress now at home ahead of next week’s election, however, there will be no deal before the election. There is still some interest from Members of Congress to pass additional COVID-19 relief after the election, but much depends on the election outcome.
No matter the election outcome, current Members of Congress will need to return to Washington before the end of the year for what is referred to as a “lame duck” session, as current federal government funding runs out on December 11. Congress will need to pass final fiscal year 2021 funding or an additional continuing resolution by that time in order to keep the government open.
