Get the scoop on what's happening this week in Congress.
This week, a bipartisan deal was reached to pass another Continuing Resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown. The new short-term package will continue to be laddered with the first deadline for 4 of the 12 appropriations bills on March 1st and the remaining 8—including the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and related agencies bill— due a week later on March 8th.
On Thursday, the House passed a bill that would limit funding restrictions on crisis pregnancy centers, which provide deceptive and often medically-inaccurate information to pregnant people to dissuade them from seeking abortion care. The legislation would prevent HHS from establishing or enforcing restrictions on federal funding for these centers. Although NCSD does not expect the bill to pass the Senate, NCSD joined 72 other organizations in signing a letter opposing the bill and affirming the importance of access to accurate information and evidence-based care when making personal medical decisions, including the decision to have an abortion. The letter was delivered to Congress Thursday morning.
