Appropriations

Leadership of the House and Senate appropriations committees reached an agreement on allocations for the 12 subcommittees’ FY24 appropriations bills, though how the $1.66 trillion has been divided has yet to be released to the public. House Appropriations LHHS Subcommittee Chair Aderholt has stated that while the LHHS appropriations bill faces a cut compared to last year’s levels, the bill should still be workable.

The border deal and Ukraine/Israel funding supplemental still remains unresolved. Republican law makers are discussing whether to move elements of the war supplemental to a separate package without provisions for border security in an effort to get the supplemental through.

Homeland Security Impeachment

The House voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, making him the first Cabinet secretary impeached in almost 150 years.

Mifepristone

Fifty senators and 213 House members filed a brief to the Supreme Court in support of the White House and its efforts to ensure wider access to the abortion drug mifepristone.
