Impeachment

The House, in a second attempt, voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas by a narrow 214-213 vote.

Appropriations

Although the House and Senate have agreed on topline funding letters for the appropriations bills, the chambers are still far apart on potential policy riders.

Earlier this week, the Senate passed a comprehensive aid package for Ukraine and Israel and House Republicans want to see Ukraine aid passed. However, Speaker Johnson seems unlikely to bring up the Senate-passed supplemental package in its current form. Representative Fitzpatrick has stated he is working on a legislative framework with some other Democrats and Republicans to address Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and border funding as an alternative to the Senate’s bill. Other options to get the funding through include adding amendments to the Senate bill or breaking the bill into smaller parts.
