Contact Tracing Needs for COVID-19
NCSD calls for resources for a drastic increase in the number of DIS and contact tracers.
The COVID-19 Funding Request:
Contact tracing is a fundamental strategy for interrupting the spread of any infectious disease outbreak and will be vital to COVID-19 control and mitigation. Effective COVID-19 contact tracing requires a significant increase in the contact tracing workforce:
- 100,000 Contact Tracers: $4.8 billion
- 10,000 Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Supervisors: $1.3 billion
- 1,600 Epidemiologists: $240 million
- Technology and training: $700 million
COVID-19 contact tracing workforce (113,000 individuals and technology): $7.04 billion total
