On Friday, the Trump Administration released a proposed “gag rule” that would potentially strip Title X family planning funds from any provider that offers abortion services or referrals. NCSD is deeply opposed to this policy which will be detrimental to the health of millions of Americans.

All family planning programs, including Planned Parenthood, are essential partners in screening, diagnosing, and treating STDs for women, men, and young people. These providers offer a broad range of safety net health services that are pivotal to our nation’s ability to curb STDs. At a time when we have record high STDs, we can ill-afford bad policy that could potentially dismantle this critical network of providers.

NCSD stands with our partners in family planning, Planned Parenthood, and the public health field in staunch opposition to this dangerous proposal. We will join in opposition to this policy and we urge our colleagues and partners to join with us.

NCSD is a national public health membership organization representing health department STD directors, their support staff, and community-based organizations across 50 states, seven large cities, and eight US territories. We advance effective STD prevention programs and services in every community across the country. For more information, go to ncsddc, org
