Following Historic Election Results, NCSD Urges New Efforts to Control STIs and End the HIV Epidemic

Washington, DC – As the Trump administration takes office, NCSD has developed recommendations to lower STI and congenital syphilis rates and expand the Ending HIV Initiative – both new programs started in the first Trump administration. David C. Harvey, Executive Director of NCSD, issued the following statement: 

“When President Trump and Vice President-elect Vance take office, NCSD strongly urges the new administration build on STI and HIV initiatives started in the first Trump administration, including the first-ever federal STI action plan that had an important focus on preventing babies from being born with syphilis, and the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative. Both initiatives have bold benchmarks and indicators to measure progress.  Now is the time to finish this work.” 

“HIV and STIs have a long history of bipartisan policy efforts to support a public health response. We call upon the new administration and Congress to continue these efforts to protect the health of all Americans, and we stand ready to work with the new administration and Members of Congress to further these goals.”
