> Racism in Sexual Health Impacting STD Prevention
Event

Racism in Sexual Health Impacting STD Prevention

Event Date
November 15, 2022

In the context of the U.S., racism is a historical, societal, and structural system in which the dominant racial group has advantage, power, and privilege to access social resources. These resources include the full access to culturally appropriate care and education for sexually transmitted diseases. Racism is the driver and determinant of health inequities. Racism is a root cause for health inequity. Racism continues to create conditions that allow health disparities to thrive, elevating the risks for STDs in many communities. This webinar will highlight some history of racism and explore its impact on the STD profession. By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • define racism, oppression, social justice, and health equity;
  • analyze how justice (racial, social, reproductive etc.) can impact an individual’s personal/sexual health
  • identify and select two considerations from history that may impact or inform their current work.
