Biden-Harris Watch, Week Three

Nominations & Confirmations

Biden’s pick for HHS Secretary, Xavier Becerra has not yet been confirmed to his post. Incoming Finance Chair Ron Wyden (D-OR), recognizing the concern, mentioned that a hearing is still pending. Other recent nominations & confirmations include:

  • Labor: Labor secretary nominee Martin Walsh is testifying before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (10 a.m., 430 Dirksen).
  • HUD/Council of Economic Advisors: The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will vote on Rep. Marcia L. Fudge’s nomination to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as Cecilia Rouse’s nomination to chair the Council of Economic Advisors (2 p.m., G-50 Dirksen).
  • Ambassador to the UN: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will take a vote, postponed from yesterday, on Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s nomination to be ambassador to the United Nations (10 a.m., 325 Russell).
  • Transportation: Former presidential candidate and Mayor, Pete Buttigieg was confirmed by the Senate (86-13) as U.S. Transportation Secretary and first openly gay cabinet official
  • Homeland Security: The Senate confirmed Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (56-43). He is the first Senate-confirmed secretary since the former president ousted Kirstjen Nielsen in April of 2019.
