In recent years, the CDC reports that Congenital Syphilis cases are rapidly growing throughout the United States. Although Congenital Syphilis is preventable, there continues to be new cases each year in Indiana. In this webinar, you will hear from three public health leaders who have helped diminish these increasing rates of Congenital Syphilis in their home states ofTexas and Louisiana.

Presenter Information

Chaquetta Johnson, Deputy Director of Operations,

STD/HIV/Hepatitis Program – Louisiana Department of HealthDr. Chaquetta Johnson is Deputy Director of Operations with the Louisiana STD/HIV/Hepatitis Program. In this capacity,she is responsible for assisting with the oversight of statewide STD, HIV and Viral Hepatitis program activities and offers program-related clinical consultation to internal and external partners. She has more than 18 years of experience with the LouisianaOffice of Public Health, including several years providing direct care services as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and serving as a Regional Nurse Manager. She completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing and dual Master’s degrees in Nursing and Public Healthat the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Johnson completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Vanderbilt University where she was recognized for her work studying the relationship between contraceptive choice and the incidence of sexually transmittedinfections. She has served on numerous civic and professional boards including her current service on the Louisiana Health Works Commission and the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) Board of Directors.

Amanda Reich, Congenital Syphilis Coordinator, Texas Department of State Health Services

Amanda began working on Congenital Syphilis (CS) while at Austin Public Health, reporting CS for the City of Austinand Travis County in 2015. She began working for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as a Public Health Follow-up Consultant providing guidance to several programs across the state, reviewing statewide congenital syphilis case reports, anddatabase conversion in 2017. She currently works with DSHS as the Congenital Syphilis Coordinator, providing guidance and technical assistance to partner services programs across the state regarding congenital syphilis reporting, facilitating and moderatingFetal Infant Morbidity Review Boards on Congenital Syphilis in Harris (Houston), Bexar (San Antonio), and Dallas (Dallas) Counties, and writing the Texas Congenital Syphilis Program Operating Procedures and Standards. Amanda currently serves as the co-chairon the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) Program Committee.

Jessica Del Toro, Congenital SyphilisEpidemiologist, Texas Department of State Health Services

Jessica Del Toro is the Congenital Syphilis Epidemiologist for the Texas Department of State Health Services where she initiates and conducts analysis on dataassociated with Congenital Syphilis (CS) screenings, including examining surveillance efforts, epidemiologic trends, and public health follow-up efforts. Jessica first began working on CS in 2017 with the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District as a DiseaseIntervention Specialist where she conducted follow-up for pregnant women with syphilis, CS investigations, and maternal interviews for Bexar County. In 2018, while with the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, she was promoted to a Management Analystposition where she supervised a case management program focused on decreasing congenital syphilis in Bexar County. Jessica currently serves as a core team member on the Fetal Infant Morbidity Review Boards on Congenital Syphilis in Harris (Houston), Bexar(San Antonio), and Dallas (Dallas) Counties.
