FY20 Appropriations:

Raising the Caps:

On Wednesday, April 5, the House Budget Committee passed the Investing for the People Act, which proposes to raise defense and nondefense discretionary spending (including spending for STD prevention) by $88 billion in FY20 from the levels in FY19. The bill will now head to the House floor for voting where the House Democrats are working to make changes so the bill gets enough support to be approved.

NCSD on the Hill:

Day of Action:

On April 2, NCSD took to Capitol Hill with members from 10 different jurisdictions. A small but mighty team held over 55 meetings to discuss the rising STD rates across the country, and the astonishing levels of congenital syphilis. Thank you to all those who attended!

Hill Briefing:

On April 3, NCSD hosted a congressional briefing titled STDs: A Rising Threat to Women, Children, and Families. Representatives from APHA, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, the Division of STD Prevention, Connecticut, Los Angeles, Missouri, and Washington spoke about the consequences of congenital syphilis on babies, the long-term effects of chlamydia on infertility, and the need to support STD prevention and treatment. The room was filled with 60 members of congress and partner organizations.
