Here's the scoop on what's happening this week in Congress.
Last Thursday, a group of Republican Senators introduced the Senate version of the White House rescissions package. It has been referred to the Budget and Appropriations Subcommittee where the Chairman, Richard Shelby, has expressed some concerns about the proposed cuts. The Senate has until June 22nd to act. Meanwhile, the House is continuing to push forward with their rescissions package despite raised concerns about taking back money from CHIP.
Last week, Representative Barbara Lee reintroduced the Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA). Originally introduced in 2007 by the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) the HEAA works to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities through supporting culturally competent care, removing insurance barriers, and creating accountability measures. Sen. Mazie Hirono is expected to introduce it in the Senate.
